Altmetric Analysis of ResearchGate Profiles of Faculty Members From Hamadan University of Medical Sciences

Objective: ResearchGate is one of the most popular social networking websites for scholars. This study aims to investigate the presence of the faculty members of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences (HUMS) on ResearchGate by using an Altmetrics approach. Methods: The study population consists of the profiles of the faculty members from HUMS, Hamedan, Iran on ResearchGate in 2021. For Altmetrics study, first their profiles were visited. Their data were then extracted which included Research items, Total Research Interest, Questions, Answers, Followers, Followings, Reads, Recommendations, RG Score, Citations, and h-index. Their total citations were then extracted from the Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. Finally, the collected data were analyzed in SPSS v. 25 software, using Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and Spearman correlation test. Results: All faculty members of HUMS had a profile in ResearchGate and 78.31% had joined ResearchGate. The statistical analysis showed a significant positive correlation between RG score and citations on ResearchGate, Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Conclusion: Through active participation in ResearchGate and sharing published studies, medical scholars can make their works more visible and get more citations.
